Jim Solano: A Legacy of Leadership, Learning, and Love

Jim Solano’s life was a masterclass in dedication—to his profession, his community, and most of all, his family. A distinguished leader in the sports agency industry, a passionate philanthropist, a respected educator, and a devoted family man, Jim’s impact was felt across generations and industries.

A Scholar and Educator

Jim’s academic journey began at Temple University, where he earned his BS, MBA, and MS in Taxation. His connection to Temple didn’t end with graduation; he went on to serve as an Associate Professor for five decades, teaching accounting and taxation with unwavering commitment. His influence extended to the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (now Thomas Jefferson University), where he continued to shape young minds.

In 2017, the Fox School of Business honored Jim with its Lifetime Achievement Award in Accounting, a testament to his enduring contributions to education and the accounting profession.

A Pioneer in Sports Representation

Jim became a licensed CPA in 1966, building a successful practice that served individuals, small businesses, physician groups, and eventually professional athletes. His deep ties to the athletic community led him to establish a sports agency focused on NFL contracts, later expanding to represent PGA golf professionals.

Over his illustrious career, Jim represented more than 800 players and coaches, including over 500 Philadelphia Eagles. His professionalism and deep understanding of the game earned him widespread respect. Among his many achievements, he represented 18 members of the Eagles’ 1980 Super Bowl team and 30 players and coaches from Buddy Ryan’s Eagles teams (1986–1990).

In 2021, Jim had the distinct honor of presenting his longtime friend and client, Harold Carmichael, at Carmichael’s Pro Football Hall of Fame induction—a moment that symbolized the depth of their friendship and Jim’s influence in the world of sports.

A Heart for Philanthropy

Jim’s generosity extended far beyond the field. He founded the Jerome Brown Foundation to support underprivileged children and co-founded the Otho Davis Foundation (ODSF) in 1999 with Harold Carmichael and Keith Krepfle, serving as Vice President and Trustee. Under his leadership, ODSF flourished, attracting sponsors and celebrities to support its mission of awarding scholarships and uplifting the community.

For the foundation’s 25th anniversary, Jim helped organize a major fundraising event featuring Nick Foles, Jason Kelce, and others—recreating the iconic “Philly Special” and bringing together fans and philanthropists alike.

A Life Rooted in Family and Community

Jim’s commitment to giving back was deeply personal, shaped by his experience growing up as one of seven children and working his way through college. He was a longtime member of Llanerch Country Club, where he enjoyed golf and the camaraderie of friends.

But above all, Jim cherished his family. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, actively participating in their lives and cheering them on at sporting events. “They are my entire world,” he often said—a reflection of the love and devotion that defined his life.

Jim Solano’s legacy is one of excellence, compassion, and unwavering integrity. His contributions to education, sports, and philanthropy will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps. He leaves behind a community forever enriched by his presence—and a family that will carry forward his spirit of love and generosity.
