SCHOLARSHIP

REQUIREMENTS


The Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation will award scholarships annually in accordance with the wishes of Otho Davis. He expressed the following desires and qualifications, which constitute the policy of our foundation:


“A scholarship will be awarded to a deserving graduate student in a school program of study whose area of concentration is in sports medicine, physical training, or sports marketing.

The award will be based upon an overall review of merit and financial need by the members of the foundation’s Board of Trustees. The candidate must either attend school in or be a resident of either Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey or Northern Delaware. The awarded scholarship will be directly sent to the school on behalf of the student and must be used within five years of the award acceptance.”.

We will be awarding two Graduate students a scholarship in the amount of $20,000 each.


The application should be submitted no later than October 15, 2023.

2023 Otho Davis Scholarship Application

 

On behalf of the trustees of the Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation, we are inviting you to submit qualified candidates for this year’s scholarships. We will award two graduate students a scholarship in the amount of $20,000 each.

 

The qualifications for an applicant are as follows:

 

Participation in a graduate program in the area of a) sports medicine, b) physical training, or c) sports marketing.

 

The student must be a resident of or attend a college in the Delaware Valley area (Greater Philadelphia area including Southern New Jersey and Northern Delaware).

 

The applicant must also exhibit significant financial need and should note their current total educational debt. This information must be addressed, or the application will not be considered. A letter from the financial aid office will usually suffice. Scholarship finalists may be asked to provide verification of total educational debt.

The application for scholarships must include the following material:

 

An introductory letter written by the candidate, introducing him/herself and explaining his/her current curriculum and professional goals. The letter should also include a brief background and provide the trustees with a flavor of the individual and his/her experiences and long-term goals.

 

A resume reflecting the standard education and work history, but we would like them to also include any extracurricular activities and service projects in which they have participated. Service work is very important.

 

A letter of recommendation from the Program Director or Department Chair in which the student is enrolled (please include GPA).

 

This packet of information should be forwarded directly to Marie Solano-Mascia at the Foundation’s address no later than October 15, 2023. All the material requested will be used as part of the selection process. The decision will be made by October 25, 2023.    The winning applicant will be notified via communication directly to the school.

 

The scholarship recipients will be acknowledged at our 25th Annual Awards Banquet to be held on Wednesday November 1, 2023, 5:30 PM at the Philadelphia Marriot Old City, One Dock Street in Philadelphia, PA. We will provide all the details when we notify the winners.


The scholarship check will be issued directly to the school on behalf of the student.

The decision will be made by October 25, 2023, and the winning applicant will be notified via communication directly to the school.


The scholarship recipients will be introduced at our Annual Awards Event which will take place on November 1, 2023 at the Marriott Old City (formerly Sheraton Society Hill). Details will be provided when the winners are notified.
